  • Urban Fire Control
  • Brooklyn, NY

Job Description

About Us

Urban Fire Control is a full-service commercial fire protection company serving all five NYC boroughs. We handle fire suppression installation, extinguisher service, inspections, FDNY plan expediting, and are expanding our in-house fire protection architecture and engineering team. We work with restaurants, cafes, and major national chains across the city, and we're growing our design team.

The Role

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer who knows shop drawings inside and out and wants to grow into fire suppression design. You'll produce floor plans and mechanical drawings for commercial kitchen projects, working from field sketches and measurements through to filing-ready plans. No fire suppression experience is required. We'll train you on commercial kitchen suppression systems and NYC filing requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare shop drawings, floor plans, and mechanical drawings for commercial kitchen and hood projects
  • Turn field sketches and measurements into accurate, code-compliant plans
  • Join site visits to survey spaces and take measurements when needed
  • Revise drawings based on reviewer comments and resubmit for approval
  • Coordinate with our drafters, expediters, installers, and outside engineers/architects
  • Learn fire suppression system design (NFPA 96, UL-300, wet chemical systems) and take on suppression drawings over time

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Hands-on experience producing shop drawings (required)
  • Strong floor plan and mechanical drafting skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD [add Revit or other software if needed]
  • Working knowledge of NYC building codes or DOB processes is a plus
  • A genuine interest in learning fire suppression systems
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple projects at once
  • Must be based in the NYC area

Nice to Have

  • Experience with commercial kitchen, HVAC, or exhaust system projects
  • Familiarity with NFPA standards
  • Interest in pursuing PE licensure
